H Hotels Rhodes Sustainability Report 2020 – 2021
Synopsis
The following is a summary of the official Sustainability Report for 2020 – 2021 regarding the H Hotels Collection on Rhodes island, Greece. The purpose is to communicate the enterprise’s awareness for sustainable social and environmental practices and the subsequent actions undertaken by the Hatzilazarou Group towards achieving a global partnership in sustainability, as outlined by the United Nations World Travel Organization (UNWTO), aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) and the Sustainable Greece 2020 Initiative.
Here are, in summary, the actions which H Hotels have taken towards a future of greater sustainability for 2020 – 2021 across three fundamental pillars.
Staff-Wellbeing in the Workplace
We regard our staff as our greatest and most valued asset.
H Hotels places tremendous emphasis on providing an ethical and harmonious working environment in which every person feels valued and heard. We are ardent supporters of equal opportunities within the workplace and offer employment solely based on merit. We believe in fair treatment for all and have zero tolerance for any kind of direct or indirect discrimination, victimization, harassment or bullying occurring in the workplace (and beyond). Furthermore, we invest in our people through a life-long learning philosophy by way of free educational training seminars for our staff to reinforce and further develop their skills.
Social Influence & Local Community Support
We have strong ties with the world that surrounds us.
As a way of giving back to the community that has so graciously embraced us, we actively participate in creating a framework of sustainability by supporting and improving its economic and social growth. We do so by employing locals from the south region of Rhodes, graduates of Greek Tourism schools and by procuring from local sources, to the greatest extent possible. Furthermore, H Hotels are an active and proud sponsor of various sports clubs and athletic events happening in Rhodes, in the hopes of instilling and nurturing the island’s athletic spirit. H Hotels also have an extensive charitable outreach program that includes donations made to different organizations in Rhodes, every year.
Environmental Impact
We deeply care about our ‘greater’ home since “we are all guests here”.
We fully grasp the urgent need for humanity to be kinder to nature and to nurture the environment that envelops us. At every interaction, humans leave a mark on the planet and it is with the following environmental actions that H Hotels aspire to mitigate the environmental impact of operation, to the least invasive extent possible. To date, we have organized a series of beach and surrounding area cleanups, we have participated in the Forest Ambassador tree adoption programme to help minimize the carbon footprint while we also strongly encourage guests to cycle around using bicycles instead of driving. Additionally, within our premises, we undertake regular water quality testing and wastewater treatment, while we save energy by way of automated systems for better efficiency. Office consumables are being reduced and reused while recycling is a major actionable target for us. Furthermore, the pilot ‘Hotel Kitchen’ Initiative that took place at our Princess Andrianna Resort & Spa in 2021, has set the bar for optimal food management and showed us how to keep waste at a feasible minimum.
Conclusion
With all the above in place, we feel a sense of gratification in being on the right track to becoming a more sustainable enterprise, year on year. We promise to continue our Hotels Rhodes Sustainability & Responsible Business to raise Environmental Awareness with our staff and guests in every way possible. Going forwards, our vision for a more sustainable future is to reinforce the best practices we currently have in place as well to continually improve our progress, year on year. Our next sprint will include gradually replacing all possible plastic utensils, so that we can be one step ahead of the upcoming state regulations about plastic elimination. To continue our quest to recycle even more and reduce the operational burden on the environment as per business as usual whilst improving our scores. To keep educating our staff in terms of eco-awareness and to actively protect human rights of both staff and guests. To commit to on-going contributions to various social and cultural activities and events on Rhodes island, to monitor ourselves on a regular basis and compare our progress against our targets annually.
