Our sustainable hotels in Greece, Rhodes
Honour World Environment Day
June 5th celebrates nature’s all-encompassing gift to us, the living, breathing Earth. H Hotels Collection, a group of sustainable hotels in Greece on the island of Rhodes, aspires to honour this gift every day.
Deeply woven into our philosophy is the responsibility that comes with being curators of hospitality experiences on Rhodes island. As an enterprise whose core business is hosting visitors, we are tasked to mitigate against negative environmental impacts (among others) on any scale of operation.
Traveling is truly a wonderful thing, but only when done responsibly. There is an urgent need, now more than ever, to forge the best environmental practices across all industries to the greatest extent possible. And at H Hotels Collection, we do our part. At a glance, we take good care of our seafront, so that we keep maintaining the crystalline cleanliness of our Blue-Flag beaches; we do annual beach clean-ups of the local beach; we place great importance on recycling on our premises.
On this last item of recycling, this year’s World Environment Day has a clear and concise message to #BeatPlasticPollution. It is an open call for governments and businesses worldwide to act, commit and set new standards to battle the enduring issue of plastic pollution. The alarming truth is that plastic pollution can become a catalyst for dangerous climate change, as highlighted by the UN Environment Programme.
As a group of sustainable hotels in Greece, H Hotels Collection is on board with the Beat Plastic Pollution initiative and proud to already have monitoring systems in place to better reuse, reduce and recycle plastic as well as other types of recyclables. Our responsible business goes beyond recycling to include energy-saving too, and even beyond the environment with a solid corporate social responsibility and the sponsorship of events that strengthen the local community.
The below excerpt is only one of our 20-point Action plan toward more environmentally sustainable operations. You may read the synopsis of our most recent Rhodes Sustainability Report to get a general idea or you are welcome to give the full Sustainability Report for 2020-2021 a read-through. To quote the latter:
“Recycling has become a priority in the hotel’s operational system; thus, it includes the recycling of plastic, glass, paper, and aluminum. Within this frame, all the glasses used in the bars and restaurants are reusable and made of recycled plastic. The recycling of cooking oil and fats is also a part of the recycling programme. Additionally, the hotels recycle led lamps and batteries. Another concern of the hotels is the use of straws, where awareness about the environmental impacts of using plastic straws has increased. Therefore, the bars and restaurants have been notified to reduce the use whenever possible. Biodegradable straws are also provided as an alternative.”
To this day, H Hotels Collection remains 100% committed to greener practices for a better future. We aim to gradually replace plastic utensils in their entirety while we continue to recycle and reuse even more.
